Folklife of Tennessee Waters – Dr. Robert Cogswell, Director of Folklife Programs for the TN Arts Commission

September 26, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join Dr. Robert Cogswell, former Director of Folklife Programs for the TN Arts Commission for a multimedia presentation that explores the informal folk culture that thrived along the state’s rivers, influencing regional evolution of travel and economic activity. In the 19th century groups of people along our rivers—shantyboaters, fishermen, mussellers, and boatworkers—shared unique ways of life and traditions that have had continued presence into modern times. Tennessee Waters: Shaping Our Land, Our Lives, and Our Future is a statewide touring panel exhibit about water’s impact on our lives, our history, and our society. Presented by Humanities Tennessee, the Tennessee Historical Society, and the Albert Gore Research Center.
