Library Assistant Job Description
The Kingston Public Library is seeking a friendly, energetic, part – time circulation assistant to work at the front desk throughout the week along with Saturdays from 9:00a.m. – 1:00p.m. Job applications will be available at the front desk. The minimum age to apply is 18.
Specific Responsibilities of the Job:
– Dependability and flexibility is a MUST.
– Be able to assist with proctoring the TWRA Boat Certificate Exam.
– Issue and renew library cards.
– Process reserves and perform telephone notifications (answering, calling, etc.)
– Shelve materials when returned.
– Collect fines/charges.
– Assist patrons in use of public computers.
– Answer reference questions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Knowledge of personal computers and related hardware, electronic mail, internet, and office software.
– Ability to work with patrons and staff members in a friendly and tactful manner.
– Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
– Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with other employees and the public.
– Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service and teamwork.
Education and Experience:
– Degree or equivalent experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
– Years of experience: At least one year of customer service experience with cash handling required.
Physical Demands:
– The employee is required to stand, walk, reach, and occasionally stoop, kneel, and crouch when shelving books.
– Ability to lift at least 25 pounds when needed.
